Privileged work,
no third party.
Hold one key, dictate the memo, and it lands where your cursor is. Speech recognition runs entirely on your Mac, so no third party ever receives it. No cloud, no account, no telemetry, no subscription. Not even as an option.
Bytes sent during this dictation: 0.
From the call to the file.
Four things Murmela does for a small firm. All of them on your Mac, none of them on a server.
Memos, letters and declarations
A memo to file after the call, a letter to opposing counsel, a declaration drafted from your notes. Hold the fn key, speak in full sentences, let go. Punctuation is handled; nothing else is changed.
Depositions and client interviews Pro
Drop the recording in. Up to six hours, transcribed on your Mac. With Pro, speaker labels show who said what; rename them, and export as text or subtitles with timestamps. A working transcript, not a certified one.
Case names and clients, spelled right
Add matter names, parties and terms of art to the vocabulary. They come out as you wrote them, in dictation and in transcripts, and the list stays on your Mac.
Letters in your client's language
Dictate in English and paste in Spanish, or translate a client's letter the other way. Nine languages in both directions, on your Mac. A first draft to check, not a certified translation.
On privilege and client confidentiality. No client data leaves your Mac, so there is no third-party processor, no vendor to vet and no agreement to sign with one. Whether that satisfies your obligations under your bar's rules and your clients' terms is your firm's own compliance decision. We make no certification claims. We give you an architecture you can verify.
The honest trade: your text arrives a second or two after you let go, there is no AI rewriting, and it runs on Apple-silicon Macs only.
Good to know.
Does anyone outside my firm receive what I dictate?
No. Audio and text stay on your Mac. The only connections the app can make are model downloads, an optional update check and a one-time license activation, all listed on the Security and data page. Whether that satisfies your bar's rules and your clients' terms is your firm's own decision.
Is the deposition transcript certified?
No. It is a working transcript with timestamps and speaker labels, for your own notes and review. A certified transcript still comes from a court reporter.
Can my firm's IT review it?
There is no cloud service to audit, so there is no SOC 2 or ISO report. There is a Security and data page listing every connection, storage location and permission, and a five-minute test: block the app in Little Snitch or LuLu and it keeps working.
Can I use it on Windows?
No. Murmela runs on Apple-silicon Macs only.
