For your day

From source text to delivery.

Four things Murmela does at a translator's desk, and one thing it does not do. All of it on your Mac.

Murmela's Translate screen: German text on the left, the English translation on the right with a menu of alternatives for the word 'draft'

Whole documents, translated on your Mac Pro

Open a .txt or .md file of up to about 60 pages and read the translation paragraph by paragraph, in a formal or informal register. For other formats, paste the text; pasted text translates for free. Nine languages, both directions.

Click any word for alternatives Pro

Pick a better word and the rest of the sentence adapts to it, like a colleague who listens. The choice is yours; the model only offers.

Nothing pasted into a web form

No browser tab, no account, no terms that forbid personal data. Client files stay in your folders and the model runs on your chip. Block the app in Little Snitch or LuLu and it keeps translating.

Dictate the target text

Read the source, speak the translation, and it lands in your editor where the cursor was. Vocabulary keeps client names and terms spelled your way.

A first draft, not a translator

The model gives you a draft. Terminology, register and the final read stay yours.

On NDAs and client terms. No source text leaves your Mac, so there is no third-party processor and no agreement to sign with one. Whether your client's terms allow machine translation that runs on your own machine is a decision for you and your client. We make no certification claims. We give you an architecture you can verify.

The honest trade: your text arrives a second or two after you let go, there is no AI rewriting, and it runs on Apple-silicon Macs only.

FAQ

Good to know.

Is the translation good enough to deliver?

It is a first draft. The alternatives help, and the final read stays yours. Check every sentence before it goes to a client.

Which files can it open?

With Pro, .txt and .md files of up to about 60 pages. For Word, PDF or a CAT tool, paste the text; translation of pasted text is free.

Does it keep a translation memory or a glossary?

No. Murmela is not a CAT tool and does not enforce a glossary. Vocabulary fixes the spelling of names and terms when you dictate.

My client's terms forbid cloud machine translation. Does this count?

Nothing leaves your Mac, so no third party processes the text. Whether machine translation on your own machine is allowed under your contract is for you to settle with your client.

Which languages?

English, German, French, Spanish (Spain and Argentina), Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Dutch and Polish, in both directions. Dictation on its own understands almost any language, including mixed speech.
